Widespread Panic Dusts Off ‘Glory’ In St. Augustine

Widespread Panic began a three-night run at St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, Florida on Friday. WSP busted out “Glory” for the first time in three years and also delivered a number of their choice covers.

Panic launched their St. Augustine run with “Aint’ Life Grand” featuring frontman and guitarist John Bell on mandolin. WSP then linked up the vintage “Stop-Go” with Willie Dixon’s “Weak Brain, Narrow Mind” the latter making its first appearance since Panic En La Playa 2020, as per Panic Stream.

The Bloodkin song, “Can’t Get High,” came next ahead of a pairing of “Dyin’ Man” and Vic Chesnutt’s “Sleeping Man.” Following the Jerry Joseph favorite, “Climb To Safety,” Panic delivered the first “Glory” since March 30, 2019 in Durham, North Carolina, for a total of 77 shows, as per Everyday Companion. The classic “Space Wrangler” wrapped up the first frame.

WSP kept up the classics with “Holden Oversoul” to kick off the second set. “Holden” encompassed James Taylor’s “Knocking ‘Round The Zoo,” which, as Panic Stream noted, was the first non-Thursday rendition of the song since June 26, 2011 at Red Rocks. Next, “Tortured Artist” made its first appearance since early 2020 and headed into J.J. Cale’s “Ride Me High” followed by staple “Driving Song” and “The Last Straw” to cap off the mid-set the seamless section.

Panic, however, would embark on another continuous segment beginning with “All Time Low” and a return to “Driving Song” ahead of Bloodkin’s “End Of The Show.” A rowdy rendition of Talking Heads’ “Life During Wartime” brought thee second to set to a close. Panic would return to encore with Murray McLaughlin’s “Honky Red” followed by the beloved “Porch Song” to cap off the evening.
