Widespread Panic Busts Out ‘St. Louis’ In St. Louis

Widespread Panic brought their Winter Tour to the Peabody Opera House in St. Louis for a concert last night. The show featured a pair of first set bust outs as well as a three song encore.

The first set opened with the cover-less streak ending “Papa Legba” and included takes on “Porch Song”, “Tail Dragger,” “Tickle the Truth,” “Worry,” and a pairing of “Bust It Big” > “Sleeping Man.” WSP then performed their original “Three Candles” having last played it 146 shows ago on March 8, 2014 in Richmond, Virginia. Panic followed that bust out with another rarity, dropping the locale appropriate “St. Louis” for the first time in 109 shows, last performing it at their Fourth Of July show in Las Vegas in 2014. Perhaps making a subtle comment regarding the NFL’s St. Louis Rams pending move to Los Angeles, or merely acknowledging the city’s “Gateway” moniker, WSP followed “St. Louis” with the set ending “Goin’ Out West.”

The second set began with “Saint Ex,” followed by “Jack” > “Chilly Water.” Highlights also included the “All Time Low” > “Jam” > “Drums” > “Jam” > “Angels On High” sequence, as well as a take on Z.Z. Top’s “Jesus Just Left Chicago.” For the encore the band gave a double nod to the late Vic Chesnutt with “Expiration Day” and “Aunt Avis,” but weren’t quite finished as a third song, Alan Price’s “Sell Sell” concluded the show.
