It was fitting that the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration tour, featuring Warren Haynes, visited San Francisco last night on the occasion of Garcia’s birthday. Haynes teamed up with the San Francisco Symphony, bassist Lincoln Schleifer, drummer Jeff Sipe and vocalists Alecia Chakour and Jasmine Muhammad to deliver two sets filled with orchestral versions of Jerry Garcia’s finest songs. As an added bonus, Bob Weir showed up with Furthur keyboardist Jeff Chimenti for the end of the second set and a pair of extra encores.

Weir and Chimenti came out for “Shakedown Street” and stuck around for “China Cat Sunflower” and “Morning Dew.” The Furthur members rejoined the ensemble for “Sugaree,” “I Know You Rider” and “Stella Blue” as part of an encore that also featured Haynes’ take on Garcia -“Patchwork Quilt.”
