Weezer Releases Surprise ‘The Teal Album’ Of Covers

Weezer‘s cover of “Africa” by Toto scored a massive hit for the band and the group has gone back to the cover well with the surprise release of a new album. Weezer (The Teal Album) came out with little fanfare at midnight and features “Africa” and nine other covers. The LP comes in advance of Weezer (The Black Album), which is due March 1 via Crush Music/Atlantic Records.

Rivers Cuomo and the gang put the focus on songs from the ’80s and ’90s for The Teal Album such as A-Ha’s “Take On Me,” The Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This),” Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and “No Scrubs” by TLC. Weezer also dove further back in the canon for “Happy Together” by The Turtles, Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid,” ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky” and the Ben E. King gem “Stand By Me.” Listen to the whole album below:
