Ween’s Last Show: New Year’s Eve In Denver In 2011

Tomorrow Ween will reunite for the first of three consecutive nights of shows at 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The beloved band composed of founding members Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman and Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo with bassist Dave Dreiwitz, keyboardist Glenn McClelland and drummer Claude Coleman, Jr. last shared the stage together over a three-night New Year’s run in 2011 at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, not far from the site of their pending reunion. For Throwback Thursday, here’s a look back at the December 31, 2011 concert featuring the last time Deaner and Gener performed together.

Melchiondo recently revealed the band intends to perform more than 100 songs with no repeats over three nights in Bloomfield – certainly an accomplishable feat considering that’s basically what they delivered over three nights at The Fillmore back in 2011. The finale on New Year’s Eve featured over 30 songs, including covers of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and CSNY’s “Ohio” as well as Ween classics like “Fiesta,” “Bananas & Blow,” “I’ll Be Your Jonny On The Spot,” “Buckingham Green,” extended takes on “Reggaejunkiejew” and “Mushroom Festival From Hell,” and many others. The night included a countdown to midnight and subsequent “Auld Lang Syne” performance as balloons and confetti rained down on the audience.
