Ween Plays Halloween Show In Denver

Ween celebrated Halloween with the second night of a three-show run at the Mission Ballroom in Denver that marks the band’s first headlining dates of 2019. The quintet dressed for the occasion and served up a 30-song performance that ended with the beloved “Poopship Destroyer.”
Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman took the stage dressed as a witch, while Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo sported a creepy baby’s head, Dave Dreiwitz wore an Evel Knievel costume, Glenn McClelland dressed as a wizard and Claude Coleman Jr. looked like a zombie cowboy. Ween opened with a run of “Freedom Of ’76,” “Don’t Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy)” and “Touch My Tooter.” The band then played their SpongeBob SquarePants contribution “Loop de Loop” for just the fourth time ever.
The show rolled on with one classic after another including such staples as “Bananas & Blow,” “Big Jilm,” “Doctor Rock,” “Transdermal Celebration,” “Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down)” and “Push Th’ Little Daisies.” A few rarities, namely “It’s Gonna Be (Alright),” “Laura,” “Beacon Light” and “Powder Blue,” also made the setlist. Drummer Claude Coleman Jr. delivered a drum solo within “Never Squeal” towards the middle of the set. Ween encored with “It’s Gonna Be A Long Night” and the year’s first “Poopship Destroyer.” The five-piece concludes their Halloween run on Friday night.
