Waxahatchee Returns With New Album ‘Tigers Blood’ + Shares Single & Tour Dates

Waxahatchee, the solo project of singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield, will release a new album entitled Tigers Blood on March 22. Crutchfield shared the lead single off the album, “Right Back To It,” and announced tour dates supporting its release.

The 12-track Tigers Blood is the follow-up to the Alabama-born/Kansas City-based Crutchfield’s 2020 album, Saint Cloud. The pending album is the first Waxahatchee release on the ANTI- record label. Crutchfield once again worked with producer/multi-instrumentalist Brad Cook, who also produced Saint Cloud.

New collaborators were also part of the recording sessions at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, which included drummer Spencer Tweedy, guitarist MJ Lenderman, and Cook’s multi-instrumentalist brother Phil Cook.

Crutchfield described writing one of the first songs written for Tigers Blood, “Right Back To It,” which features Lenderman on guitar and harmony vocals:

“I wrote it backstage at Wolf Trap when I was on tour opening for Jason Isbell and Sheryl Crow. I’m really interested in writing love songs that are gritty and unromantic. I wanted to make a song about the ebb and flow of a longtime love story. I thought it might feel untraditional but a little more in alignment with my experience to write about feeling insecure or foiled in some way internally, but always finding your way back to a newness or an intimacy with the same person.”

Waxahatchee will tour extensively in support of Tigers Blood. The tour begins on April 18 in Crutchfield’s current hometown at Kansas City’s Uptown Theater and continues through the rest of April and most of May.
