Warren Haynes & Danny Louis Guest With Widespread Panic At Wanee Festival
By Scott Bernstein Apr 16, 2016 • 7:40 am PDT
This year’s Wanee Festival continued on Friday at The Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida; where Widespread Panic closed out the action on the main Peach Stage. The Georgia rockers were joined by old friends Warren Haynes and Danny Louis for a pair of ZZ Top covers as part of their encore.
Widespread Panic made no mention of the big news from the prior day in which keyboardist JoJo Hermann revealed the band would stop touring extensively after 2016. The group focused on originals for the majority of their 130-minute main set on Wanee including “Chilly Water,” “Driving Song” and “Ain’t Life Grand.” A fireworks display accompanied the group’s performance of “Rock.”
Haynes and Louis of Gov’t Mule, who had performed earlier in the day, emerged at the start of the encore for “Waitin’ For The Bus” and “Jesus Just Left Chicago” off ZZ Top’s 1973 album Tres Hombres. Widespread Panic finished off the evening sans guests with “Bowlegged Women.” The band plays another set at Wanee tonight. A free live audio stream is available via LiveWidespreadPanic.com.
