Warren Haynes Guests With Gregg Allman And Les Brers At Wanee

Guitarist Warren Haynes kept himself quite busy this weekend at the Wanee Festival, performing with his bands Gov’t Mule and Ashes & Dust, while making several guest appearances with other acts on the bill. Among the sit-ins Haynes participated in was joining several of his former The Allman Brothers Band mates who perform together in Les Brers as well as guesting with Gregg Allman.

Mid-way through the Les Brers set late Friday night that saw Allman veterans including founding members drummers Butch Trucks and Jaimoe, as well as percussionist Marc Quinones, bassist Oteil Burbridge and guitarist Jack Pearson, alongside guitarist Pat Bergeson, keyboardist Bruce Katz and vocalist Lamar Williams Jr., fellow ABB alum Haynes held a reunion during a performance of “The Same Thing.” The blues standard made famous by Muddy Waters was the sole song Haynes assisted on during the set that also included takes on The Allmans Brothers classics like “Jessica,” “Dreams,” “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” and “Whipping Post.”

After appearing with his Ashes & Dust Band Saturday afternoon, Haynes stuck around the same stage to sit-in during a set by another founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, joining Gregg Allman and his band immediately after. Haynes augmented another rendition of “Dreams” and was joined by Pearson for “Southbound.” Pearson also helped Gregg out on “One Way Out.”
