Vulfpeck continues to preview their forthcoming Schvitz album with the release of the album’s “Simple Step.” Vocalist Antwaun Stanley stars on the throwback track as he does on Schvitz single “New Guru.”
Schvitz is due out next month with vinyl on sale through the end of 2022. The 10-track effort comes on the heels of the band’s 2020 album, The Joy Of Music, The Job Of Real Estate. Vulfpeck — who already unveiled Schvitz tracks “All That’s Left Of Me Is You,” “Sauna,” “Earworm” and “New Guru” — played a schvitz-themed set at Levitate Music & Arts Festival in Marshfield, Massachusetts this past July.
“Simple Step” features Stanley on vocals, Theo Katzman on drums, Woody Goss on Wurlitzer, Cory Wong on guitar, Joe Dart on bass, Joey Dosik on sax, Jack Stratton on piano. While the version featured on Schvitz is new, “Simple Step” dates back to the late 2000s. The song was first played by Groove Spoon, a 10-piece ensemble formed at the University of Michigan that included Vulfpeck members Antwaun Stanley, Joe Dart and Jack Stratton.
