Vertex Festival Will Not Be Held In 2017

Last month organizers of the Vertex Festival revealed the future of the event was in doubt due to a lengthy permitting process. On Monday Vertex organizers Madison House Presents (MHP) announced a 2017 installment will not be held, though they are open to a return of the festival in the future.

As Live For Live Music points out, the Denver Post details what led to the demise of Vertex ’17 including a statement from MHP. “The recent approval of the permit for Vertex in 2017 is much appreciated, and displays the collective intentions to discover a great path forward. Buena Vista’s relationship with a world-class festival has amazing potential,” the statement from MHP reads in part. “Rushing forward could compromise the quality of the festival and is not in the best interest of Buena Vista or Vertex. We look forward to ongoing productive discussions with the community so that we can best plan the dream of what Vertex can become.”

Madison House Presents feels the lengthy public meetings with local officials were “healthy” but “pushed Madison House ‘well past original planning timelines.'” Vertex may return in 2018. “They did say that they may come back to reapply for 2018,” Commissioner Dennis Giese told the Denver Post. Some of the issues with the permit was that MHP was looking for a three-year permit and were only offered one. There were also restrictions on noise levels and the curfew. The inaugural Vertex Festival was held between August 5 – 7 on a ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado and drew approximately 8,000 attendees.
