Vampire Weekend recently swung by SiriusXM studios to promote their new album, Only God Was Above Us. Along with performing stripped-down renditions of songs off the record, VW also threw in a cover of the Grateful Dead’s version of traditional ballad, “Peggy-O.”
Today, SiriusXM shared video of Vampire Weekend covering “Peggy-O” where the band’s Ezra Koenig, Chris Thompson and Chris Baio were joined by vocalist Amber Coffman and violinist Ray Suen. Koenig and Coffman swapped verses and also came together in harmony as the band delivered a sparse but masterfully built arrangement around the singers.

VW’s Chris Thompson was also sporting a String Cheese Incident t-shirt and during the interview with SiriusXM described himself as a “self-identified jambander.” Koenig also joked that VW could be defined as a “slow-motion jam band.” Listen to the interview with performances below:
In other jam band/Vampire Weekend news, the band recently joined Goose during their Capitol Theatre run and Phish bassist Mike Gordon is among the openers on VW’s forthcoming tour around Only God Was Above Us. Check out VW’s itinerary with ticket info.
