Umphrey’s McGee VIP Set At Summer Camp Features Rarities & Marriage Proposal

By Scott Bernstein May 31, 2017 12:01 pm PDT

On Saturday afternoon Umphrey’s McGee played a set for VIPs within the Three Sisters Church at the Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, Illinois. The members of UM used a stripped-down rig to perform a number of rarities for the small audience and one fan used the occasion to pull off a successful proposal to his now fiancee.

The sextet opened the six-song performance with just the third “Kabump” of 2017. Up next were originals “Morning Song” and “Blue Echo” followed by the return of “Turn & Run” for the first time since August 14, 2016. UM then performed “Kimble” after which a fan whom videographer Shinepigeon notes as “Lamar” asked his girlfriend “Melody” to marry him and she said yes. For the set’s finale, Umphrey’s treated fans to Pat Metheny’s gorgeous instrumental “Last Train Home.” UM hadn’t played “Last Train Home” since October 24, 2014 – a span of 255 shows.
