Umphrey’s McGee Releases ‘Raw Stewage 2016’

Umphrey’s McGee will perform their annual UMBowl VII interactive concert at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas on May 6 during a two-night stand that includes a show on May 7. In preparation for the event, the band has sent out UMBowl VII ballots to all fans to vote on the “Raw Stewage” first quarter and “All Requests” second quarter, as well as shared official recordings of each possible “Raw Stewage” contender via the Raw Stewage 2016 compilation.

Featuring recordings of “Jimmy Stewart” jams dating back to a show on February 4, 2003 at Gerstle’s in Louisville, Kentucky through last month’s performance at The Hive in Sandpoint, Idaho, a total of 30 tracks have been shared in advance of UMBowl VII. Several of the selections feature Brendan Bayliss providing improvised lyrics over the lengthy jam segments. Umphrey’s McGee began calling their live improvisation sequences “Jimmy Stewart” after a late night jam session following a September 2001 performance at a wedding at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel in a room named after the actor Jimmy Stewart.
