Umphrey’s McGee Welcomes Guests & Performs ‘Anchor Drops’ At Summer Camp

Umphrey’s McGee welcomed special guests Here Come the Mummies and Southern Avenue’s Tierinii Jackson during their performance Friday at Summer Camp. UM’s second set was a replication of their 2004 studio album, Anchor Drops, a feat they similarly pulled off back in 2015.

“Bad Friday” opened Friday’s first set at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. After stretching out via “Ringo” > “#5,” Umphrey’s brought out the costumed Here Come The Mummies horn section for a cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer.” The set progressed with staples “Phil’s Farm” and “Intentions Clear,” which led into the ending of “1348” that was started at SCamp the day before. “Bridgeless” brought the first set to a close.

The second set began with the Anchor Drops opening song “Plunger” and the recently reissued record’s title track. UM proceeded to play the rest of the Anchor Drops tracklist nearly in order, bringing Jackson out for “Bullhead City,” a rarity last played in 2016. UM’s Anchor Drops set also saw the group’s first “13 Days” since 2017. The album’s closing track, the tender “The Pequod” was repositioned ahead of an emphatic set-closing “Wife Soup” that brought an end to UM’s Friday Summer Camp performance.
