Umphrey’s McGee closed out their RÖCKJAVIK concert series at Harpa’s Eldborg Concert Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland on Sunday night. Old friends and fellow RÖCKJAVIK performers Jennifer Hartswick and Marc Brownstein each made guest appearances during last night’s show.
Instrumental intro “Bathing Digits” led into “Crucial Taunt” to start UM’s RÖCKJAVIK finale. Guitarist Brendan Bayliss then fronted the sextet on It’s Not Us gem “Maybe Someday” and oldie “2nd Self.” Next came “Remind Me” before Umphrey’s McGee presented a seamless run featuring classics “2×2,” “Great American” and “JaJunk” to close out Sunday’s first set.
UM delivered an expansive “Attachments” to get their final set of the event underway. “Attachments” gave way to “Cemetery Walk” before the six-piece spent nearly 30 minutes working through jam vehicles “Hurt Bird Bath” and “Ocean Billy.” The latter featured teases of The Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking.”
Jennifer Hartswick, who was on hand for a late night performance with Bayliss, emerged after “Ocean Billy” for Umphrey’s first cover of the Heart classic “Barracuda” since April 7, 2016 — a span of 456 shows. Hartswick previously joined UM for “Bullhead City” and “Electric Avenue To Hell” on Saturday and provided lead vocals on “Barracuda.” Umphrey’s went on to finish the set sans Hartswick with instrumental “The Triple Wide.”

The Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein took part in a Star Kitchen concert on Saturday and his band opened for UM on Sunday. Brownstein swapped in for Umphrey’s bassist Ryan Stasik for the “Gulf Stream” that opened last night’s two-song encore. Guitarist Jake Cinninger shouted out “Iceland” and made mention of the event’s delay due to the pandemic in singing “Gulf Stream.” Stasik replaced Brownie for the “Puppet String” that ended Sunday’s concert and Umphrey’s RÖCKJAVIK finale.
