Umphrey’s McGee Delivers A Trio Of Bust Outs In New Hampshire

On Saturday night, Umphrey’s McGee wrapped up a short Northeast run at Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. The sextet, who unexpectedly released a studio album on Friday, dusted off a handful of covers during their two-set show in the Granite State.

The Chicago-based band got their night underway with “Dark Brush,” as they played the tune from it’s not us for just the fourth time. Setlist staple “The Triple Wide” came next before Umphrey’s paired the first “The Fuzz” in 103 shows with “Walletsworth.” Towards the back end of their opening stanza, the sextet launched into “Much Obliged” which segued into an abbreviated pair of long-lost Led Zeppelin covers. Up first was “How Many More Times” from the legendary rock act’s 1969 self-titled debut. Last night’s “How Many More Times” was the group’s first since December 4, 2014 – a span of 326 shows. Then, UM closed out the frame with just their second version of “Immigrant Song” since 2015.

Umphrey’s McGee opened up their second set of the night with “Der Bluten Kat.” Last night’s version saw the six-piece act sandwich in a take on “Voices Inside My Head” by The Police. UM last played the Zenyatta Mondatta track on April 1, 2017. “In The Kitchen” followed as the Anchor Drops track segued straight into “Attachments,” the lone tune that the band showcased from their new record it’s you in Hampton Beach. The classic “Phil’s Farm” was up next and led into the end of “In The Kitchen.” An improv-heavy “JaJunk” brought the second set to an end.

Umphrey’s closed out the night with a two-song encore. First, they reached for “Kimble,” one of their oldest originals. Finally, guitarist Jake Cinninger led the band on a cover of “Plush” by Stone Temple Pilots. Last night’s rendition of one of STP’s biggest hits was the first time Umphrey’s has revisited the tune since they debuted the cover on December 6, 2015 at Dominican Holidaze.
