Umphrey’s McGee Debuts The Clash Cover In 2013

Two years ago today Umphrey’s McGee kicked off a four-night New Year’s Run at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver. The biggest surprise of the evening came in the middle of the second set, when the band launched into the debut of “Rock The Casbah” by The Clash.

UM’s first-ever “Rock The Casbah” came after a well-jammed “The Bottom Half.” Guitarist Jake Cinninger handled vocals on The Clash cover and then slid over to Andy Farag’s percussion setup for a drum jam that followed. Umphrey’s has performed “Rock The Casbah” nine more times since its debut. Watch fan-shot footage of UM’s cover debut thanks to Live Archives:

The Chicago sextet kicks off this year’s New Year’s Run at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver on Wednesday night. On New Year’s Day the band will present the first-ever Reel To Real event.
