Two weeks ago today Umphrey’s McGee surprised fans by unveiling a new studio album entitled it’s you with no advanced notice. Last weekend at the Summer Camp Music Festival the band served up the live debuts of four songs from the LP and premiered another on Thursday night in Charleston, South Carolina.

Umphrey’s was due to play two sets at Patriot’s Point in Charlestown last night but switched the gameplan to one long set due to bad weather. Guitarist Brendan Bayliss led the group through “Make It Right” to open ahead of a well-jammed “In The Kitchen.” Up next was the first “Get In The Van” since July 2, 2017. UM then delivered a 15-minute version of the title track from 2009’s Mantis they worked into the recently debuted it’s you instrumental “Xmas At Wartime.”

Bayliss stepped to the mic towards the middle of the set to thank fans for riding out the weather with them. He then dedicated “You & You Alone” to all the moms in the crowd, specifically Mary Welch Stasik. From there, old-school favorite “Sociable Jimmy” led into “Puppet String.” Next, UM slickly inserted “Half Delayed” within “1348.” The six-piece brought the set to a close by jamming “Day Nurse” into the end of “Mantis.” Umphrey’s McGee said farewell with a three-song encore that started with “Miss Tinkle’s Overture.” Jake Cinninger then fronted the group on the first ever live version of it’s you rocker “What We Could Get.” UM ended the night by covering Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” for the first time this year.
