U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere is returning to the state-of-the-art venue in the form of an immersive concert film. Co-directed by The Edge, V-U2 opens at the Las Vegas Sphere on September 5.
U2 was the first band to perform at the Sphere, with their 40-date Achtung Baby production running from September 2023 to March 2024. The V-U2 concert film aims “to give the immersive movie goers as close to the live U2:UV concert experience as possible — and then some,” The Edge stated. “I’ve never seen a U2 show. I’m so relieved I caught a great one,” he added.

The Edge co-directed V U2 with Morleigh Steinberg, who also commented on the new film.
“We knew all the tremendous capabilities of the technology, but we didn’t know what to expect from the process of making this film. The work became a true collaboration between band, artists, producers, and technology teams. The end result is a cinematic experience that transports viewers into the energy and beauty of the live show.”
U2 frontman Bono and bassist Adam Clayton co-produced V-U2 alongside The Edge and Steinberg. Video director of the original show, Stefaan “Smasher” Desmedt, served as associate director of the film. Joe O’Herlihy, the band’s longtime director of sound, handled sound production along with Jacknife Lee among other contributors.
The V-U2 film incorporates all of the technology used in the original Sphere U2 show, as press materials for the film detailed.
V-U2 makes audiences feel like they’re at the live show in an immersive experience that’s only possible at Sphere. To create this larger-than-life concert film, Big Sky cameras captured the band at extraordinary scale, sharpness, and clarity. The concert film employs Sphere’s immersive technologies including the 160,000 sq. ft. display plane, which at 16k x 16k resolution is the world’s highest-resolution LED screen; Sphere Immersive Sound, powered by HOLOPLOT, which provides crystal-clear sound to every seat in the house; and haptic seats, which use vibrations so guests can ‘feel’ the experience. All of these technologies, used in ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere,’ will be leveraged in this Sphere Experience to reinforce the feeling of ‘being there.’
A ticket presale is currently underway. Tickets for V-U2 go on sale to the general public on Friday, August 23 at 10 a.m. PT. Check showings and purchase V-U2 tickets via Ticketmaster.
