U2 Honors Chris Cornell With Song Dedication In Los Angeles

By Jeffrey Greenblatt May 21, 2017 8:20 am PDT

Last night U2 brought their The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 to Pasadena, California for a two-night stand the Rose Bowl. The Irish rock band are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their seminal 1987 album The Joshua Tree. As they will do on every night on this tour the band played their fifth studio album front to back, along with a mix of their greatest hits. Bono & Co. were also the latest act to pay their respects to the late Chris Cornell.

Before U2 took to the stage last night Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” played over the P.A. system as their first tribute of the night. It was during The Joshua Tree portion of the show that Bono formally acknowledged Cornell’s passing, calling the Soundgarden front man a ‘beautiful sweet soul,’ as he dedicated “Running To Stand Still” to him and his family.
