Twin Limb Aides My Morning Jacket On Prince Tribute In Louisville
By Scott Bernstein May 13, 2016 • 11:56 am PDT
Last night Louisville rockers My Morning Jacket kicked off a two-night stand at Iroquois Amphitheater in their hometown featuring support from fellow Louisville band Twin Limb. My Morning Jacket were joined by all three members of Twin Limb as they honored Prince with a cover of “Purple Rain.”
Jim James & Co. began Thursday night’s show with their newest original, “Throwback (When We Were Young).” My Morning Jacket put a focus on material from their 2005 studio album Z throughout the evening by performing seven of the LP’s ten tracks including “Gideon,” “Dondante” and “It Beats 4 U.” The group ended the 16-song main set with their fourth performance of Prince’s “Purple Rain” since they debuted the cover in Oklahoma City on April 27. This time around Twin Limb’s Lacey Guthrie, Maryliz Bender and Kevin Ratterman added backing vocals. MMJ brought the evening to a close with a six-song encore.
