Colorful funk rock group Turkuaz held a New Year’s Eve concert at Rams Head Live in Baltimore. The band mixed originals and covers, including their debut cover of a Paul McCartney & Wings hit, as part of the celebratory evening that rang in 2018.

Guitarist Dave Brandwein laid out a little French was he sang the show’s opener “Chatte Lunatique.” Next came a pair of songs from their most recent studio album Digitonium as they worked through “Percy Thrills (The Moondog)” and “Nightswimming,” followed by the recently introduced “If I Ever Fall Asleep.” Sly & The Family Stone’s “Babies Makin’ Babies” served as the first cover of the night and was followed by their freshly issued, Jerry Harrison-produced single “On The Run.”

Hot Chocolate’s “Everyone’s A Winner” kept up a party atmosphere. A few songs later “20 Dollar Bill” led to the New Year’s countdown and traditional “Auld Lang Syne.” The first songs of 2018 were “King Computer,” “Coast To Coast and “Tiptoe Through the Crypto.” Then came the debut of Turkuaz’s cover of “Jet” by Wings.

“The Generator,” a cover of The Bar-Kays’ “Holy Ghost,” “Future 86” and the favorite “Bubba Slide” closed out the set. “Monkey Fingers” was selected for the encore and wrapped up the NYE show in Baltimore.
