Turkuaz Releases ‘040717’ Live Album

Brooklyn-based funk outfit Turkuaz dipped into their archives for the surprise release of a new live album. The 17-track 040717 LP features a mix of live staples, including both originals and covers, which have been mixed and mastered from a multi-track recording. 040717 is available now via digital outlets and can be streamed below.

“Opening up the vault of Turkuaz shows is both a fun and daunting task. There are just so damn many of them! But through the process, we uncovered a performance that I really believe speaks to the spirit of the band, as well as the fun and energy that our fans love,” said Dave Brandwein, lead vocalist/guitarist who also handled mixing duties for the entire album, in a statement. “We’re very excited to share this live album with everyone and we hope it brings people as much joy listening to it as we get from playing it.”

040717 starts with the fan-favorite “Percy Thrills, The Moondog” and includes such beloved originals as “Bubba Slide,” “Future 86,” “Nightswimming” and “Tiptoe Through The Crypto.” The nine-piece powerhouse band also works through road-tested covers of Talking Heads’ “Slippery People,” Sly & The Family Stone’s “Babies Makin’ Babies” and Hot Chocolate’s “Everyone’s A Winner.”

Turkuaz continues a summer heavy on festival appearances with a pair of performances at the High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy, California on Thursday and Friday.
