One of the most anticipated pairings of the 2020 festival season was Turkuaz teaming with multi-instrumentalist Jerry Harrison and guitarist Adrian Belew for performances in honor of Talking Heads’ legendary Remain In Light album celebrating its 40th anniversary. The pandemic finally relented enough for the powerhouse nine-piece band, Talking Heads’ co-founder and one-time TH touring guitarist to present their first Talking Heads tribute set to close out Saturday’s main stage action at The Peach Music Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Turkuaz, Harrison and Belew played a 14-song set that included five tracks from Remain In Light, a handful of additional Talking Heads classics, a Turkuaz original and a song a piece from Jerry and Adrian’s other projects. Early Talking Heads gem “Psycho Killer” opened the set before the ensemble looked to Remain In Light for “Crosseyed & Painless” and “Houses In Motion.”

The musicians continued on with “I Zimbra” and “Electricity (Drugs)” from Talking Heads’ 1979 studio album, Fear Of Music. “This one is ours and these gentlemen were nice enough to join us on it,” Turkuaz guitarist Dave Brandwein told the crowd before a performance of “Ophidiophobia.” A studio version of the Turkuaz original featuring contributions from Belew and Harrison was released last September.

Turkuaz, Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison returned to Remain In Light for a powerful “Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)” and Fear Of Music for a horn-driven “Cities.” Harrison then led the crew through “Rev It Up” from Casual Gods, his 1988 solo album. Next, Belew took a turn in the spotlight for “Thela Hun Ginjeet” from Adrian’s time in King Crimson. More Talking Heads live repertoire gems brought the set to a close including “Life During Wartime,” “Once In A Lifetime,” “The Great Curve” and a cover of Al Green’s “Take Me To The River.”

On July 22, the musicians take the tribute to Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, North Carolina before an appearance at FloydFest 21.
