Trombone Shorty released a new single, “Lifted.” The song is the title track to the New Orleans musician’s upcoming album, due out on April 29 via Blue Note Records.

Trombone Shorty (Troy Andrews) announced Lifted in February, his first album in five years since the release of 2017’s Parking Lot Symphony. Andrews has previewed the record with lead single “Come Back” and now the title track.

The cover art of Lifted is a photo of Troy as a boy being held up by his late mother, Lois Nelson Andrews, at a second line performance. Trombone Shorty dedicates the album to his mother, who passed recently. “She lifted me up my whole life,” Troy said.

“‘Lifted’ is pure hard-charging funk,” press materials for the new single noted, “a song about love’s unrelenting grip delivered with huge guitars, sneering horns and a trombone solo for the ages.”
