Trigger Hippy will return this fall with a new lineup and a new release, Full Circle & Then Some, which comes out on October 11. Today, JamBase is pleased to premiere a new track from the record, “The Door.”
“It’s not a song that reinvents the wheel, it’s a song about what everyone has lived through — or that everyone thinks about in one way or another,” bassist and principal songwriter Nick Govrik told JamBase. “If you’ve been in relationships with people — and that could be romantic, platonic, family, business, whatever — you find people who won’t let themselves make decisions, or say, ‘I’m not allowed to be happy because of x, y, z,’ you know? Life keeps moving.”
First launched in the mid-2000s as a casual jam among Govrik, former The Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman, and other Nashville-based musicians, Trigger Hippy officially debuted in 2009 with Jimmy Herring and Audley Freed in the lineup. Other incarnations included Jackie Greene, Tom Bukovac, and Joan Osborne. The crackling current band combines Gorman and Govrik with guitarist/singer Ed Jurdi (Band of Heathens) and singer and saxophonist Amber Woodhouse.
