Trey Anastasio Band Returns To Road In Fredricton & Portland

This weekend the Trey Anastasio Band returned to the road for a pair of festival dates, and a headlining gig for the first time since making their debut at the High Sierra Music Festival back in July. On Friday night Trey Anastasio & Co. performed a headlining slot at the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredricton, New Brunswick, Canada and offered up a more traditional two set show last night in Portland, Maine at Thompson’s Point.

Friday night’s slot at the Moose Light Blues Tent saw the Trey Anastasio side-project open with the Latin-tinged “Curlew’s Call.” From there the meaty ensemble worked their way through a number of TAB classics including “Sand,” “Burlap Sack and Pumps,” “Simple Twist Up Dave” and “Push On ‘Til The Day.” The seven-piece band also included takes on “Pigtail,” which was originally debuted by Phish back in 2010, but has become a TAB staple, as well of the Picture of Nectar instrumental “Magilla.”

Last night Anastasio and his troupe headed to the Pine Tree State for a two set show at Thompson’s Point. The night once again began with another poly-rhythmic, horn-tinged tune “Mozambique.” The show stuck to a number of old-school staples from the band’s repertoire as they offered up “Cayman Review,” “Gotta Jibboo” and “Money Love & Change” during the first set, as well as covers of The Band’s heartbreak classic “It Makes No Difference” and Bob Marley’s “Small Axe.”

Set two opened with “Drifting,” and included takes on more tour workhorses like “Night Speaks To A Woman,” “Sand” and “Mr. Completely.” TAB also offered up a handful of newer vintage tunes with “Parting Glass,” which was debuted earlier this year at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, as well as “Architect,” “Corona” and “Valentine.”

Trey Anastastio Band closes out their short weekend run tonight with a headlining performance at the Grace Potter-curated Grand Point North Festival in Burlington, Vermont. Watch video from both nights and check out the full setlists below:
