A long-awaited reissued and expanded edition of Tom Petty’s iconic 1994 studio album Wildflowers is coming on October 16 via Warner Records. Wildflowers & All The Rest will be released in multiple formats including a deluxe box set that contains live performances of all the songs from the original album as well as a super deluxe box set which adds 16 studio recordings of alternate takes from the sessions that yielded Wildflowers. The forthcoming collection has been previewed with Petty’s home recording of the title track, “Wildflowers.”
Tom Petty spoke of his desire to revisit Wildflowers in multiple interviews over the last few years before his tragic death in 2017 at age 66. Petty noted to the Los Angeles Times he was turning his attention to the project following the Heartbreakers’ 40th anniversary tour during his final interview. Adria and Annakim Petty, Tom’s daughters, and his wife, Dana Petty have granted his wish by curating Wildflowers & All The Rest with Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench. Longtime collaborator Ryan Ulyate produced the project.

Wildflowers was originally issued on November 1, 1994 and was co-produced by Petty, Campbell and Rick Rubin. Initially, Tom submitted a double CD with 25 songs but listened to the label and put out the album as a single CD with 15 tracks. The basic 2-CD/3-LP Wildflowers & All The Rest features 25 songs including five previously unreleased tunes. Wildflowers & All The Rest – Deluxe Edition spans four CDs and seven LPs with the addition of home recordings and demos and a compilation containing live performances of 14 Wildflowers tracks recorded between 1995 and 2017. Finding Wildflowers, 16 studio recordings of alternate takes of Wildflowers songs rounds out the massive Wildflowers & All The Rest – Super Deluxe box set.
“Wildflowers (Home Recording)” is the third track shared so far from Wildflowers & All The Rest. Petty’s 8-track “You Don’t Know How It Feels” demo was released in June with “There Goes Angela (Dream Away)” following earlier this month.
