Tipitina’s Record Club detailed a previously unheard Etta James album titled Your Good Thing: Live At Tipitina’s. The LP comes on 180g custom-colored vinyl exclusively through the famed New Orleans venue’s record subscription service.
Renowned NOLA funk band Galactic owns and operates Tipitina’s. The group’s Ben Ellman and Robert Mercurio along with Kid Audiophonic produced Etta James’ Your Good Thing: Live At Tipitina’s, captured at a June 11, 1991 concert the late great singer delivered at the venue.
The show saw Etta delivering a number of R&B favorites including her own “Something’s Got A Hold On Me. Other standouts include Isaac Hayes and David Porter’s “Your Good Thing (Is About To End),” Willie Mitchell and Earl Randle’s “Come To Mama,” Randy Newman’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On” and Jimmy Reed’s “Baby What You Want Me to Do/Medley,” which features a guest spot from Meters guitarist Leo Nocentelli, who also contributed liner notes for the LP.
The performance featured James’ Roots Band consisting of longtime musical director/guitarist/arranger Josh Sklair, bassist Bobby Vega, drummer Herman “Roscoe” Ernest III, guitarist Bobby Murray, keyboardist David Matthews, Etta’s son percussionist Donto James as well as a horn section of saxophonist Richard Howell, trumpeter Ronnie Buttacavoli and trombonist Kraig Kilbey.
