Tinariwen released a new single, “Anemouhagh.” The song is set to land on the Tuareg collective’s forthcoming album, Amatssou, due out on May 19 via Wedge.

Amatssou could be described as the desert blues of North Africa meets Nashville. While initially invited by Jack White to record at his private facility with renowned producer/musician Daniel Lanois, the COVID-19 pandemic axed those plans.

Tinariwen — co-founders Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, Touhami Ag Alhassane and Abdallah Ag Alhousseyni, as well as bassist Eyadou Ag Leche, percussionist Said Ag Ayad and guitarist Elaga Ag Hamid — were able to work remotely with Lanois along with Nashville players banjoist Wes Corbett and Fats Kaplin with the latter adding pedal steel, fiddle and banjo on six of the 10 tracks. Kabyle percussionist Amar Chaoui contributed from Paris.

Tinariwen began rolling out Amatssou in March with the single, “Tenere Den.” The band followed with a studio cut of live favorite “Kek Alghalm” in April.
