Throwback Thursday | Levon Helm & Warren Haynes At Mountain Jam
By Andy Kahn Jun 4, 2015 • 1:50 pm PDT

Today marks the start of the 11th annual Mountain Jam Music Festival at Hunter Mountain in Hunter, New York. Running through Sunday, June 7, many of this year’s performers will be filmed for a webcast presented by Tourpedo including moe. Alabama Shakes, Robert Plant, The Black Keys, Gov’t Mule and many more (the full webcast schedule is here). Cameras were also on hand to film portions of Mountain Jam back in 2008, footage of which is this focus of this week’s Throwback Thursday as we revisit Gov’t Mule guitarist and lead singer Warren Haynes’ sit-in with the Levon Helm Band at Mountain Jam IV.

A Mountain Jam co-founder, Haynes will be performing “Dark Side Of The Mule” as one of the two sets Gov’t Mule has scheduled this weekend. Back in 2008 Haynes was a guest of the Levon Helm Band, sitting in on guitar and vocals for the Bob Dylan/The Band classic “I Shall Be Released.” Assisting Helm Band guitarists Larry Campbell and Jimmy Vivino resulted in an impressive trio of axemen on one stage.
