The JamBase Podcast Episode 25: Billy Strings & Ron Artis II
The latest installment of The JamBase Podcast contains segments featuring guitarist Billy Strings and multi-instrumentalist Ron Artis II. Both chats come after “The Rundown,” a discussion of recent news stories.
JamBase’s David Onigman talked “Tour Stories” with Billy Strings at this year’s Hangtown Music Festival. Strings told DaveO the story behind his new “prison guitar.” The Michigan native and current resident of Nashville then detailed the tale of touring in a stolen R.V. Billy also discussed the members of his current band as part of the “Tour Stories” segment.
DaveO also went “Reelin’ In The Years” with Hawaii-based musician Ron Artis II at Hangtown. Ron talked about the various projects he’s been involved in since he started performing for real at age 13. Artis’ father and family played a huge role in his musical development, a topic Ron discussed as part of the segment. The short-lived Mango Tree Band, the Artis Family Band, Ron & Thunderstorm and Ron Artis II & The Truth are some of the bands Ron participated in and chatted about with DaveO.
Andy Kahn and Scott Bernstein kicked off Episode 25 with “The Rundown.” AK and ScottyB shared their thoughts on Bob Weir and Wolf Bros‘ guest-filled debut tour to start the segment. “The Rundown” continued with a look at upcoming tributes to Willie Nelson and Chris Cornell and also included a recap of the many tours announced in the past few weeks. Kahn and Bernstein ended the segment with a discussion of what we’ve learned and how they feel about Phish‘s Kasvot Växt set now that two weeks have passed. The pair also mentioned JamBase’s Phish: Riviera Maya 2019 giveaway. Head here to enter for a chance to win a trip for two to the destination event.
