The Hold Steady shared a new single, “Heavy Covenant.” The song will appear on the Brooklyn-based rockers’ upcoming album, Open Door Policy, which arrives on February 19 through the band’s Positive Jams label via Thirty Tigers.
The Hold Steady consists of guitarists Crag Finn, Steve Selvidge and Tad Kubler, drummer Bobby Drake, bassist Galen Polivka and keyboardist Franz Nicolay. The band announced Open Door Policy in December and shared the lead single “Family Farm” ahead of “Heavy Covenant.”

Frontman Crag Finn detailed the new single in a statement. Read his words below:
“Heavy Covenant” is a song about travel, technology, and human connection. The song came out of two different music pieces that THS piano/keyboardist Franz Nicolay brought in, and with the help of producer Josh Kaufman, we combined them. It came together quickly, and when our friends Stuart [Bogie] and Jordan [McLean] came in and added the horns to the chorus it really seemed to bring it together. To us, this song is a great indication of where the band’s sound is at in 2021.”
