The Grateful Dead Performs ‘West L.A. Fadeaway’ In 1987: Pro-Shot Video
The Grateful Dead shared “West L.A. Fadeaway” for the latest installment in their All The Years Live video series. The footage comes from GD’s July 26, 1987 concert at Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim, California.
“West L.A. Fadeaway” appears on the Grateful Dead’s 1987 album, In The Dark, which came out a few weeks prior to the Dead’s Anaheim performance that year. However, the band debuted the song live back in 1982, as per The Setlist Program. Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux gave some context for the Anaheim ‘87 version in his notes accompanying the video.
“From the final show of the Summer Tour of 1987, the last Dylan & The Dead show, this mighty version of “West L.A. Fadeaway” shows why it was such a popular Jerry first set song,” he wrote. “Debuted in August 1982, this In The Dark standout was always well-received by the fans when it was played.”
