Watch The Cure Break Out ‘A Thousand Hours’ & More For 1st Time In 36 Years At North American Tour Opener

The Cure kicked off their first North American Tour since 2016 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Wednesday. The British rockers broke out “A Thousand Hours” and “Six Different Ways” for the first time in 36 years during the first and second encores respectively.

The Cure launched their NOLA concert with “Alone” followed by the Disintegration favorite “Pictures Of You.” Frontman Robert Smith would return to the 1989 album two more times in the main set with “Lovesong” and “Fascination Street.”

The 15-song initial frame also saw performances of songs from the band’s 1985 album The Head On The Door including “A Night Like This” and “Push.” The Cure wrapped the main set with “Endsong.”

The first encore began with “I Can Never Say Goodbye” followed by “Want.” Robert Smith and the company then dusted off “A Thousand Hours.” Smith last performed the song on July 15, 1987, as per SetlistFM stats, the same year the album the song is on, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, came out. The band slow-built the bust out before Smith stepped to the mic with his instantly recognizable vocals. The frontman picked up his guitar to conclude the song, working some notes high up on the neck.

Following “At Night,” the first encore came to a close with “A Forest.” The nine-song second encore got underway with Disintegration’s “Lullaby.” The Cure then delivered another big bust out with “Six Different Ways.” The band last played the song on March 31, 1987 in São Paulo, Brazil. Robert manned a mini-keyboard for The Head On The Door cut. The rest of the final encore was loaded with favorites like “Close To Me,” “In Between Days,” “Just Like Heaven” and closer “Boys Don’t Cry.”
