Organizers cut short the inaugural Texas Eclipse festival, canceling the final two days of the event held at Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet, Texas. The festival began on Friday, April 5 but performances slated for yesterday (Monday, April 8) and today (Tuesday, April 9) have been canceled and attendees instructed to leave the site after yesterday’s afternoon’s totality.

Texas Eclipse Festival organizers cited extreme weather conditions as the cause of the cancellation. Located on the path of totality, the cancellation message was posted hours before the eclipse began.

The message on the Texas Eclipse Festival website reads in part:

We regret to inform you of the severe weather forecast, including risks of high winds, tornadic activity, large hail, and thunderstorms for later today, including during the eclipse, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Your safety is our top priority. With the support and coordination of Burnet County officials, local safety agencies, and The National Weather Service, we’ve agreed to end the festival today in a calm orderly manner.

Performers slated to appear yesterday before the cancellation included Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, STS9, Tycho and dozens of other acts. Today’s canceled acts included John 00 Fleming, Giz, Ken Ishii, Eprom and several others.

Prior to canceling, the festival presented performances by Vulfpeck, the Disco Biscuits, The String Cheese Incident and Big Gigantic, alongside many additional artists.

As Stereogum noted, Texas Eclipse organizers faced other issues leading up to the cancellation. A message posted on the fest’s official social media channels addressed issues with the campgrounds, water access and accessibility challenges. The message regarding the problems stated:

We’re committed to enhancing your Texas Eclipse experience. Our teams are actively addressing your concerns, including adding more water stations, signage in camping areas, and shuttles from Over Yonder camping to Skylab Station. Free paper maps will also be available at entrances. Utilize our shuttles for easy navigation between campgrounds and the festival.
