Tenacious D Announces New Album ‘Post-Apocalypto’ & Video Series

Comedy-rock duo Tenacious D will issue a new album entitled Post-Apocalypto on November 2 via Columbia Records. Jack Black and Kyle Gass will begin rolling out an original, six-part animated video series of the same name on September 28.

Each installment of Post-Apocalypto the series features a song from the new album. Jack Black drew each frame of each video by hand and voices every character along with Kyle Gass. Look for the first episode to be posted on Tenacious D’s YouTube page on September 28. Additional episodes are due every Friday after that leading up to the release of Post-Apocalypto the album.

Jack Black and Kyle Gass tapped John Spiker to produce the long-awaited follow-up to 2012’s Rize Of The Fenix. Longtime collaborator Dave Grohl plays drums on the LP. Read the story behind Post-Apocalypto:

True to the title, Post-Apocalypto finds Tenacious D thrust into a world of complete and utter destruction following the drop of an atomic bomb. Surviving the attack in classic cinematic fashion (a good old imperishable 1950’s refrigerator), the duo quickly learns that new forms of evil have spawned from the blast. One thing becomes apparent — for humanity to prevail, Tenacious D must save the world.

With unimaginable twists and turns, an insane visit to the White House, a time machine, a space adventure, and the help of some tried and true daddy issues, Post-Apocalypto is as hilarious as it is political, and as brilliant and multi-faceted as its incredible creators. The songs are damn good, too.
