Tedeschi Trucks Band played a Garden Party concert at TD Garden in Boston on Wednesday, where they were joined by special guests Warren Haynes and Lukas Nelson. Haynes, TTB co-leader Derek Trucks‘ longtime The Allman Brothers Band bandmate, joined the 12-piece ensemble for their debut cover of Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic” and two ABB classics in the middle of the headlining set and returned for the evening’s finale.
The Garden Parties are a series of two arena shows the Tedeschi Trucks Band planned that mark their biggest headlining performances to date. On Friday, the group will play a Garden Party at Madison Square Garden in New York City with special guests Trey Anastasio and Norah Jones. Lukas Nelson + POTR kicked off last night’s show and will open at The Garden tomorrow.
Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks led their band through a two-and-a-half-hour performance at TD Garden. The 15-song main set began with a take on Joe Cocker’s “Woman To Woman.” Next, the TTB looked to their 2022 I Am The Moon album cycle for “Hear My Dear,” “Fall In” and “Circles ‘Round The Sun” with Wet Willie’s “Keep On Smilin'” worked between the latter two songs. Tedeschi then fronted “Just Won’t Burn,” the title track from her recently reissued sophomore studio album. Warren Haynes emerged after the Tedeschi Trucks Band powered through “Made Up Mind.”
Warren Haynes received huge cheers from the crowd as he took the stage. Up first for the TTB/Haynes collaboration was “Dreams.” Trucks and Haynes exchanged riffs at the start of the song from The Allman Brothers Band’s 1969 debut album. TTB keyboardist Gabe Dixon handled lead vocals on “Dreams,” which featured monumental solos from both Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. Next came Haynes helming Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic.” While Derek and Warren performed the tune frequently while members of The Allman Brothers Band, last night marked the TTB’s first “Into The Mystic.” Once again the guitarists traded effusive licks before closing out the cover.
Haynes stuck around for “Blue Sky,” an ABB cover last played by the Tedeschi Trucks Band on October 5, 2018. Lukas Nelson came out with an acoustic guitar in hand to add to the Dickey Betts-penned gem. Warren Haynes sang “Blue Sky” and delivered an intense solo after Derek Trucks let it rip. The Tedeschi Trucks Band went on to finish the set sans guests. The last portion of the frame started and ended with a pair of recently debuted cover in Faces’ “Stay With Me” and Jeff Beck’s “Beck’s Bolero” with Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I Pity The Fool” and beloved TTB originals “Midnight In Harlem” and “I Want More” in between.
Susan Tedeschi and Gabe Dixon opened the encore with the Bonnie Raitt-popularized “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” The rest of the band returned for “Bound For Glory” and then Haynes came back for a cover of Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilded Spinters” to end the night.
