Tedeschi Trucks Band concluded their seven-show residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on Saturday. Guitarist Derek Trucks reunited with his former Allman Brothers bandmate guitarist Warren Haynes for a pair of ABB tunes, a Beatles classic and more to cap off TTB’s Beacon finale.
Tedeschi Trucks Band got the show underway with an all original first set beginning with “Anyhow,” the opening track on the band’s 2016 album Let Me Get By. The beloved Revelator tunes “Bound For Glory” and “Midnight In Harlem” followed. Next came “Whiskey Legs” from 2013’s Made Up Mind and “Hard Case” from 2019’s Signs before TTB returned to Revelator material in “Until You Remember” and “Don’t Let Me Slide.” Although technically a cover for the band, vocalist Mike Mattison then helmed his song “Life Is Crazy” which has been in the TTB repertoire for a few years now and originally appears on Mattison’s 2014 album, You Can’t Fight Love. Made Up Mind’s “Idle Wind” closed out the first frame.

TTB kicked off the second set with a cover, Bob Dylan’s “Down In The Flood.” “Signs, High Times” and Susan Tedeschi’s solo cut “Looking For Answers” followed ahead of “Do I Look Worried.” The band would go all covers from there on out beginning with Derek And The Dominos’ “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?” which prefaced Bobby “Blue” Blands’ “That Did It.” Tedeschi Trucks Band then brought out their friend guitarist Warren Haynes, continuing a tradition of many memorable Allman Brothers Band runs at The Beacon as well as Warren guest spots with TTB in recent years. The sit-in got going with the ABB classic “Dreams” followed by the blues standard “It Hurts Me Too.”
An expansive version of the Allman instrumental “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” would close out the second set. Trucks reeled off some spicy licks before the band dropped into the tune with Derek and Warren swapping riffs on the intro before coming together in harmony on the melody. Trucks would helm the first solo over the groove which he built to a crescendo before keyboardist Gabe Dixon took over on organ. Warren then got in the mix beginning with some choice licks before leaning into some smokin’ stuff. Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell and Isaac Eady then presided over a double drum section ahead of bassist Brendan Boone adding some boom of his own with a spotlight solo. Warren and Derek then did som cookin’ together before bringing the song home.
Haynes returned to the stage with TTB for an encore of The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends.” Tedeschi Trucks Band delivers the song in the style of Joe Cocker’s definitive cover version and have closed out their 2018 and 2019 Beacon runs with the iconic song. Haynes is also no stranger to performing the tune with TTB, having played the song with the band for their 2018 Beacon residency finale. But it was Susan who shined on “With A Little Help From My Friends,” delivering a jaw-dropping vocal performance complete with a rock ‘n’ roll scream that would have made Joe smile.
