Tedeschi Trucks Band rolled through the Pinewood Bowl Amphitheater in Lincoln, Nebraska on Tuesday. The concert saw TTB unveiling a classic Faces cover toward the end of their set.
Penned by frontman Rod Stewart and guitarist Ronnie Wood, “Stay With Me” appears on Faces’ landmark 1971 album, A Nod Is As Good As a Wink… to a Blind Horse. “Stay With Me” was the band’s biggest hit in the U.S., reaching #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It did better in Faces’ native U.K. where it cracked the Top 10.
It’s somewhat surprising that TTB hasn’t covered “Stay With Me” before as it checks all the boxes. Susan Tedeschi delivered a swaggering rock vocal on the tune. While guitarist Derek Trucks went sans slide, he reeled off a short but spicy solo and chucked out the tune’s crunchy rock ‘n’ roll rhythm parts on the Gibson SG.
Gabe Dixon handled Ian McLagan’s iconic descending electric piano line with flair and also peeled off a solo. Although there’s no horns on the original, the song’s rave up coda — driven by drummers Isaac Eady and Tyler Greenwell — was a perfect place for saxophonist Kebbi Williams, trombonist Elizabeth Lea and trumpeter Ephraim Owens to shine.

Tedeschi Trucks Band opened the concert in Lincoln with a pair of staple originals “Anyhow” and “Do I Look Worried.” The show also saw the band offering a number of tunes from their recent four-part album I Am The Moon including “Fall In,” the title track, “Circles ‘Round The Sun” and Trucks’ epic instrumental “Pasaquan.”
Additional covers included the Elmore James and Allman Brothers-recorded “Done Somebody Wrong,” TTB’s one-two punch of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” and the Grateful Dead’s “Sugaree” and a set closing “Beck’s Bolero by the late great Jeff Beck which included a “Freeway Jam” tease.
The band returned to close the evening with the Joe Cocker-popularized “Space Captain.” TTB is en route to Red Rocks, where they’ll perform on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29. Free livestreams of TTB’s Red Rocks shows are available for nugs.net subscribers.
