Tax Day Spotify Playlist

April 15 is typically, notoriously known as Tax Day in the United States as it’s normally the deadline for when federal income taxes are due. Since Emancipation Day was observed in Washington D.C. yesterday, Monday, April 18 is the final day to file this year. This week’s Saturday Stream Spotify Playlist is aimed at the procrastinators and last-minute filers out there who may need a soundtrack as they reach the finish line.
The 15-song collection includes Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings pondering a world where no one pays taxes, Jimi Hendrix’s instrumental vision of a taxless world and George Harrison and The Beatles as well as The Kinks protesting high levies in their homeland.
There’s Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead and Trey Anastasio’s reflections on money, Fred Wesley’s questioning of the government and Talking Heads optimism about the feds, Ry Cooder’s ode to a different sort of tax, the fittingly surnamed pair of Johnnys – Johnny Cash and Johnny Paycheck – each provide tales of the I.R.S. among a few other tracks.
It runs about one hour and 20 minutes, hopefully enough time to get your taxes filed and still listen to a few of the tracks. Stream it below:
