For the third straight year NPR Music held a Tiny Desk Contest to find an up-and-coming band to perform a Tiny Desk Concert. After receiving over 6,000 entries, a panel of judges that included Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio unanimously selected the New Orleans-based Tank and the Bangas as winners of the 2017 Tiny Desk Contest.
“I immediately loved this,” Anastasio said of Tank And The Bangas. “Tank is a force of nature, just full of joy — and her band is killing in the background.”
Frontwoman Tarriona “Tank” Ball and her band mates will soon get to record a Tiny Desk Concert at All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen’s desk in Washington D.C. The band will then head out on a Lagunitas Brewing Company sponsored national tour featuring other favored Tiny Desk Contest entries. Watch Tank And The Bangas’ winning video submission of their rendition of “Quick” below:
Other judges joining Anastasio and Boilen were Robin Hilton, Rita Houston, Stas THEE Boss, Talia Schlanger, Ben Hopkins, Miguel, Anthony Hamilton and BANKS. Trey can be heard discussing his participation in judging the contest and sharing more thoughts on Tank And The Bangas in the audio clip below:
