STS9 held the second of two consecutive concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on Saturday night. The band’s 21st appearance at the famed outdoor venue included a number of live debuts during the two set show.
STS9 got to work with “When the Dust Settles” before offering the night’s first debut in the form of a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Inner City Blues” with frequent collaborator Maureen Murphy on vocals. Later in the set that also saw a pairing of “Move My Peeps” with “Monkey Music,” the band and Murphy offered the first STS9 rendition of Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves the Sunshine. Murphy also stuck around to sing “Give & Take” from the band’s recently released LP The Universe Inside before “Circus” ended the set.
The guest singer was also on stage for the start of set two, lending her voice to “Click Lang Echo” and returning later in the set for The Universe Inside cut “Get Loud.” Back-to-back covers of “Good Times” by Chic and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” closed the set with a chorus brought on to help out. Murphy was there for the encore that began with a debut performance of “Worry No More” which was also included on the new album, followed by the chorus reemerging for “Common Descent” and LP’s title track “The Universe Inside.” STS9 capped the evening with a second encore, offering “Itzamana” as the final song of the night.
