Full Show Video: STS9 Serves Up Debuts & Welcomes Guest At Red Rocks

On Friday STS9 played the first of two gigs at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado. The show marked Tribe’s 20th at the iconic venue and they made it count.

The jamtronica pioneers opened with the live debut of “Supercluster,” one of a handful songs from the recently released The Universe Inside to be played in public for the first time. “Out Of This World” was the evening’s second song and second The Universe Inside debut. Later in the first set the band welcomed vocalist and longtime collaborator Maureen Murphy for a cover of the Isley Brothers’ “Between The Sheets,” which may be best known to our readers for Notorious B.I.G.’s judicious use of samples from the tune in his “Big Poppa” single. The set ended with “Vibyl” and “New Dawn, New Day” with the former featuring a jam of Grandmaster Flash’s “The Message.”

STS9 kicked off the second set with a “Simulator” > “Grow” sequence followed by the old school “Rabble.” It was then time for more The Universe Inside debuts as “Elsewhere” and “Sun, Moon & Stars” were premiered. Murphy returned to help on the first-ever “Sun, Moon & Stars.” The fan-favorite “MOD” > “Modular Jam” > “MOD” suite gave way to “World Go Round” to end the second set. For the encore, STS9 took the stage with Murphy for a version of “Better Day” featuring bassist Alana Rocklin on upright bass before the band said farewell with the live debut of “Light Years.”
