The String Cheese Incident Works Debut & Rare Covers Into Fox Theatre Finale

Colorado’s own The String Cheese Incident concluded a series of two shows at the intimate confines of Boulder’s Fox Theatre on Saturday night. The performances came in honor of the venue’s 25th anniversary and were the group’s first at the Fox since 2004. Saturday saw SCI deliver a career-spanning show that included the premiere of a new original.
The String Cheese Incident opened with “One Step Closer” ahead of a cover of “Ophelia” by The Band. SCI had only performed “Ophelia” once prior, on December 1, 2011 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. The series of rare covers continued on with just the third “Blackberry Blossom” of the past three years, the second “Walls Of Time” since 2010 and second “Moonflower” since 1998. From there, the six-piece ended the first set with a pair of originals: “Outside & Inside” and “Just One Story.”
Keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth led his mates on the “Can’t Wait Another Day” second set opener before the band treated fans to the title track of their forthcoming album, “Believe.” Next up was “Rivertrance” ahead of the debut of a song thought to be named “My One & Only.” The closing stanza concluded with an improv-heavy “Bigger Isn’t Better” > “Round The Wheel” > “Drums” > “Let’s Go Outside” pairing. For the encore, Cheese went with a couple of oldies in “Barstool” and “Texas.” The String Cheese Incident’s Winter Carnival – Roots Revival Tour continues on Tuesday in Aspen.
