The String Cheese Incident continued their three-night run at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater in Austin, Texas with a performance on Friday night. The concert featured a bust out cover of a Thelonious Monk tune and the first performance of a Paul Simon favorite since last summer.

SCI opened Friday’s first set with “One Step Closer.” They then launched into “Born On The Wrong Planet,” which transitioned into “Can’t Wait Another Day.” The band’s recently introduced cover of Tom Petty’s “The Woods” came next, followed by “Water” and the set-closing pairing of “It Is What It Is” into “Can’t Stop Now.”

After setbreak, “On The Road” was tapped as the set two opener. SCI then segued into “Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)” before heading back into “On The Road.” The band then shifted to Thelonious Monk’s “Well You Needn’t,” which was last played on November 3, 2001. The almost exact 18-year bust out was followed by a rendition of “Black And White” that incorporated Deee-Lite’s “Groove Is In The Heart” — one of the songs played during last weekend’s ‘90s covers set at Suwanee Hulaween — within.

Paul Simon’s “Late In The Evening,” with a full band percussion jam, was then played for the first time since July 7, 2018. The set continued with “Until The Music’s Over” and a closing sequence of “Into The Blue” into “Jellyfish” into “Rosie.” One more rarity was left for the encore as “Don’t Let Go” was played just shy of one year to the day since its last appearance.
