By Scott Bernstein Jul 26, 2019 • 8:11 am PDT
The String Cheese Incident debuted a geographically-appopriate cover of the theme song from NBC sitcom The Office on Thursday night at The Peach Music Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania. SCI played their first of two sets at the event, which runs until Sunday at Montage Mountain.
Guitarist Bill Nershi led a group hoot at the start of Cheese’s “Restless Wind” opener in honor of festival founders The Allman Brothers Band. “We want to sing [this song] to all those people in The Allman Brothers Band that have passed on, all the people who put their heart and soul into the music for so long with The Allman Brothers Band especially most recently Gregg Allman and Butch [Trucks] but all the way back to Duane [Allman].”

After “Restless Wind,” The String Cheese Incident worked “Shine” into the theme song from The Office, a show which was based in Scranton. Keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth provided the signature piano line from the theme while his band mates laid down a reggae groove. The set continued with the recently debuted “I Want You” and older original “45th Of November.” The afro-tinged “Bhangra Saanj” followed and then the sextet fit a cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon” into the classic “Miss Brown’s Teahouse.” A jam on Bill Monroe’s “Jerusalem Ridge” gave way to a take on the ABB’s “Hot ‘Lanta.”
The String Cheese Incident closed out their performance with the pairing of “It Is What It Is” and “Can’t Stop Now.” SCI returns to The Peach Music Festival on Friday. A free live stream starts at 8 p.m. ET.
