The String Cheese Incident kicked off a three-night run at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Friday night as part of their continuing 25th anniversary tour. The Boulder-based band welcomed guitarist Cory Wong as an opener and as a guest during their sets.
After Wong warmed things up, SCI opened up with the classic “Little Hands” ahead of a cover of The Band’s “Ophelia” followed by “Close Your Eyes” and “Freedom Jazz Dance,” on which Cory Wong and members of his band joined in. After “Vertigo,” the second set came to a close with “Tinder Box.”
Cheese, Wong and his band mates including keyboardist Kevin Gastonguay and drummer/percussionist Petar Janjic kicked off the second set with a take on Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish.” String Cheese continued on with “Bollymunster,” “Black Clouds” and “Windy Mountain,” which led into “Illegal.” “Can’t Wait Another Day” followed ahead of the second set closer “Texas.”
SCI emerged for an encore of Led Zeppelin’s “Ramble On” to close out the evening. The band returns to Red Rocks tonight and nugs.tv is providing a live stream. Watch pro-shot video of the first and second set openers from Cheese as well as Cory Wong’s entire set below:
