The String Cheese Incident headlined the action on the first day of the inaugural Solshine Reverie presented by Summer Camp Music Festival organizers this past weekend at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. The Colorado-based jam sextet delivered one long set on Friday night instead of the two planned due to a passing storm and then teamed with Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss on a cover of Led Zeppelin‘s “Ramble On” for their encore.
Longtime Summer Camp co-host band Umphrey’s McGee played one set on Friday and then threw down three on Saturday including a guest-filled Umphrey's & Friends set. However it was Bayliss who collaborated with a fellow act on the lineup on Friday night.

SCI’s performance on Friday night came on the Moonshine Stage, where they played two sets as part of the Solshine Reverie pre-party the previous evening. Cheese chose keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth‘s “Colliding” to get their Friday night set underway. Next came “Bhangra Saanj,” the band’s 2019 collaboration with Beats Antique and the recently debuted Michael Kang-penned composition “Talkin’ About Tonight.” Favorites “Sometimes A River” and “Let’s Go Outside” followed.
The String Cheese Incident continued on by playing “Eventually” from their 2023 studio album, Lend Me A Hand, and the apropos Hollingsworth number “Rain.” From there, SCI worked an adventurous “Jellyfish” into “Joyful Sound,” which bled into the intense instrumental “Rumble” to end the three-song sequence. The sextet paired “Desert Dawn” and “Colorado Bluebird Sky” to close their 110-minute Solshine Reverie set on Friday.
“We can’t let this opportunity go to play with one of our buddies,” Michael Kang told the crowd before introducing Brendan Bayliss to huge applause. The String Cheese Incident then lit into their first “Ramble On” since June 2023 at the Electric Forest festival. Kang handled lead vocal duties on the cover of the song originally released by Led Zeppelin on Led Zeppelin II in 1969. Bayliss took a fierce solo and then exchanged call-and-response licks with Michael Kang.
